25 Nov, 2017 - New SIM registration to require biometric ID starting Dec 15

THE National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) will launch the new method of registering a new mobile phone SIM card – the biometric verification system – nationwide on December 15.

The new system will be applied to the registration of both new prepaid and postpaid SIM cards, not the existing mobile phone users.
NBTC secretary-general Takorn Tantasith said yesterday that this new registration method would be used across Thailand in all 55,000 locations – mobile phone operators’ customer service shops and the networks of the mobile phone operators’ dealers and partners.

Operators could choose to use either the face recognition verification system or a fingerprint verification system.
Takorn added that the number of new SIM cards sold by all three mobile phone operators Advanced Info Service, True Corp, and Total Access Communication, was around 4.2 million units monthly.
He said that the NBTC on October 31 ordered all mobile phone operators to introduce this new biometric registration system.
The watchdog had already piloted the method in three provinces in the deep South early this year.

Under this new method, new SIM card subscribers will have insert their ID cards into the finger print reader or the face recognition card reader at the registration locations. The card readers are connected to the mobile phones or PC of the registration locations.

In the case of the face recognition system, the locations will take the SIM card users’ face with the mobile phones embedded with an NBTC registration application. Then the app will see if the captured face matches with the face stored in the ID card database.

Under the current method, the registration locations will scan just the ID cards of the SIM card buyers and scan a barcode of the purchased SIM cards.

04 April, 2016 - i-Kool Domestic Roaming on 2100MHz

For all customers that own a SIM where domestic roaming is available, you will automatically be able to roam on AIS's 2100MHz starting 2016/04/04.

17 Dec, 2015 - Domestic Roaming on AIS's 900MHz Frequency will be terminated on Dec 22, 2015

Due to NBTC's announcement regarding the auction of the 900MHz frequency on Dec 15, 2015, i-Kool's domestic roaming privileges on AIS's 900MHz frequency will be terminated on Dec 22, 2015. Customers will still be able to continue using our services on TOT's 3G network as usual.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and will be giving 250MB of bonus data to all active customers. Customers will start receiving their bonus on Dec 23, available to be used within 30 days from date received.

24 Mar, 2015 - D-Day, April 1, Prepaid Sims will no longer be sold without registration!

On March 20, 2015, Mr. Korkij Danchaivichit. Deputy Secretary of NBTC, has announced that April 1 onwards, operators are not authorized to sell ready to use prepaid SIM cards without registration.

The government has declared that Prepaid SIM cards be registered as a national agenda, in order to identify ownership, of said SIMs

Prepaid SIM buyers are required to show their identification and register before being able to purchase a SIM card from any dealers. Registration is free of charge to consumers.

There have been reports that some retailers are charging 10-50 THB to register. Please report these individuals to NBTC or your operator's call centers.

You can check if your sim card has been registered by dialing *151# and pressing call. You will get a response message informing you if you have registered with an identification number or a message providing a code to register with.

21 Jan, 2015 - NBTC now mandates all owners of prepaid SIM cards to register for security reasons

The National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission (NBTC) now orders all mobile phone operators to require mandatory registration of all owners of prepaid SIM cards by end of July, otherwise their phone use will be cut off.

The mandatory registration of prepaid SIM cards by the NBTC was decided for security reason as many unregistered SIM cards had been used by southern insurgents in igniting bomb explosions, and some were used to deceive the people.

The NBTC held a meeting with five state and private mobile phone operators today and reached an agreement that the service providers will notify their prepaid customers to produce identification documents for registration of their SIM cards from February 1 to July 31.

Failure to register their prepaid SIM cards, service providers will cut off their phone signals, thus disrupting their outgoing calls and Internet connections.

However they still can use the phones to receive call for a certain period. At present there are 90 million prepaid users but only 1.7 million have registered.

i-Kool will no longer be distributing SIM cards with the Tune Talk logo. Previous Tune Talk SIMs will now be converted to i-Kool SIMs and can be used as usual. 28 June, 2014 - NBTC "2-SHOTS"

NBTC has released an app-based mobile registration for prepaid customers. Dealers of SIM cards of every telecom operator brand, will use the app to take pictures of a customer's newly purchased SIM card mobile number and national ID card (passports for foreigners).
Customers who have already purchased a SIM card and need to register, can find a dealer an go through the same process as a newly purchased sim, but instead of giving their mobile number(for privacy reasons), they can dial *151# to recieve a code instead.
